Vaastushastra is the science that governs the physical planning and design of dwellings so as to channelize the vital forces of nature and bring about a positive influence in both the body and the mind of the inhabitants. The vaastushastra focuses on the overall well being of mankind. It’s this set of principles , owing their origin to the Vedas, which has been guiding the traditional Indian system of architecture. A diagrammatic representation of the rules, aimed at providing general guidelines for proper planning and construction is the ‘VaastuPurusha Mandala’.
Kanippayyur Krishnan Namboothirippad, the present custodian of Kerala’s architectural tradition, is renowned and widely accepted as the “kulapathi” of Indian vaastushastra. He supports and stresses on the fact that the building , just like the human body, consist of five elements (panchabhoothas) and the seven factors (Sapthadhadukkal), wear and tear occurs in both and timely attention can improve their life span.
He swears by “Soothram” or the strategically placed holes in the walls of the building. These facilitate expulsion of foul and putrid air that accumulates in the rooms. The works of this exemplary genius can be seen in the temples designed by him in Mumbai, Pune, Pandalam (kerala) etc. The roof of the Sanctum Sanctorum in the famous Paramekkaavu Temple of Thrissur is his brainchild. He has also designed two aerodromes.
Opinion of Shri. Kanippayyur Krishnan Namboothirippad
I have designed many houses and temples according to Vaastushastra. But this is the first time a township is being designed in India and I appreciate Heera Construction Company who have pioneered a development of this scale. ‘Heera Vaastugramam’ attempts at creating houses in line with the principles made out by Vaastushastra and thus the village will be beneficent not only for the inhabitants , but also for the neighborhood . The village will essentially derive its energy from the elements of nature and shall bring Peace, Comfort and prosperity to all its inhabitants.
The incorporation of Vaastushastra begins right from the layout of roads, which are arranged east-west and north-south. Most importantly, the houses are also located taking into consideration the cardinal directions. after a house is located, it is given a form according to the measures specified by Vaastushastra. The same way as a person’s life depends on the positions of the earth and plans at the time of his birth, a dwelling’s well being depends on it’s measures. We need to consider all these factors and synthesize a configuration, which is best suited to the plot and its inhabitants. I offer my long acquired knowledge in ordering this project as per the Sastras and extend my wholehearted blessings towards the success of the project.
